W cyklu „Podwodne Abstrakcje” podejmuję temat depresji i towarzyszącym jej stanom emocjonalnym.
In the series “Underwater Abstractions,” I explore depression and the emotional states that accompany it. The starting point for this series was the memory of my first scuba dive — an experience during which I encountered an extraordinary state of stillness for the first time. The calm and sense of suspension I experienced underwater stood in clear contrast to the tension and anxiety I was experiencing internally at the time.
I treat painting as a space in which emotions can take material form. The painting process allows me to translate states that are difficult to define precisely into a language of colour, rhythm, and organic form. Each work becomes a record of a particular emotional experience while also forming part of a broader process of transformation — a movement from anxiety towards its visual ordering and integration.
The formal language of the series is based on fluid, biomorphic shapes. I am interested in the way water alters perception, slows movement, and deprives the body of its familiar sense of weight. In my paintings, this translates into compositions that balance stability with continuous flow. The combination of intense, at times surreal colours and more subdued tones creates a tension between the familiar and the indeterminate.
The series draws on the tradition of organic abstraction and enters into dialogue with the biomorphic language of modernism, evident, among other places, in the work of Jean Arp and Georgia O’Keeffe. I am intrigued by the threshold at which an abstract form begins to evoke associations with nature, the body, or a living organism, while retaining its ambiguity.
